Fantasy Football Roster Management - Extreme Spreadsheeting

It's time to manage your roster, track your player performance, look for prospects, and plan for the upcoming bye weeks. I do it, of course, through spreadsheets.

And I've uploaded the spreadsheet of all spreadsheets to help you do just that. I've been using this for years. You can download it from my MediaFire site here:

FF Roster Management 2013.XLSX

This bad boy allows you to enter the offensive/defensive points (positive and negative), as well as bonus thresholds (like extra points for long field goals, yardage bonuses, etc.) all on one tab. And all the weekly scoring worksheets are automatically updated.

Here are the worksheets you'll find inside...
  • Owners - Handy reference. Just fill in Team Name, Owner's Name and Email.
  • Bye - 2009 NFL Bye Week Schedule.
  • Roster Key - A guide for color-coding your roster, prospects, and the player scoring.
  • Roster - Enter your roster of players and track how/when they were acquired, their weekly scores and their season totals.
  • 1-17 - A tab for each week of the season (though most don't go all 17 week). You enter the stats and the gray formulas to the right calculate your points and totals. You can track your opponents and your bench, too.
  • Scoring - Your league's scoring rules - you can alter the points/bonus thresholds on this one tab according to your league's rules - the formulas on the 17 Weekly tabs get points from here so no need to update the Weekly tabs!

It's free people. And it's helped me for years.

Hope you like it!

I love the NFL but have never tried a fantasy league. Is using something like this a good starting place? any recommendations?

Hi Nicole. The articles and spreadsheets here are definitely meant to help. There are links to the side for other sources.

If your friends/coworkers haven't started a league, you can always join a public league for free. Try NFL.com or FoxSports.com (http://fantasy.foxsports.com/fantasy/football/commissioner).

I managed a team with a friend the first year until I got the hang of it, then went out on my own.

Thanks for the comment. Good luck!

Trying to download the awesome files, but files show up as 0K .. any ideas?

I use MediaFire to host the files. I just tried and had no problem. Perhaps their servers were having issues when you tried. I keep all of the spreadsheets on the Spreadsheets tab now as well - I tried those links and no problems. Try again. Hope it works for you! ~Mike

Very nice blog. I must say, that looks complicated. I'd have to try it out. I love fantasy Basketball.

Thanks, Draven! It was overwhelming at first, but over time I really got into it. I love football but was really only familiar with my local team. This was a great introduction to the rest of the league. The spreadsheet has evolved a little every season.

Cheers!

This would help if I did football. I love fantasy basketball though. Long time since you've posted. This looks easy enough, maybe I'll try this football thing this year. A good break from writing.

Thanks, Draven! I started this blog to share fantasy football advice and tools for novices. But it's been quite a while since I've updated. I will again in August before the season starts. :-)
